PRESIDENT - Sir Bobby Charlton, CBE

Famous as one of England and Manchester United's greatest footballers throughout the world, initially as an outstanding footballer and, following his retirement from the game, as an ambassador for sport and sportsmanship.

CHAIRMAN and Trustee - Roger Uttley, OBE

Former England Rugby Union and British Lions player, Roger worked with Geoff Cooke to coach and guide the England XV captained by Will Carling to the final of the 1991 World Cup. He was also assistant coach to the 1987 Lions side that won the test series against Australia.

VICE-PRESIDENTS

Sir Richard Buckley, KCVO

Chairman of the Trust from 1993 until 1998 and served as Private Secretary to His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent from 1961 until his retirement in l989.

Christine Janes MBE

A Trustee for more than 30 years and elected as a Vice-President in 2003, Christine will be remembered as ‘Christine Truman' one of the greatest women tennis players in the second half of the 20th century and now well known as a radio commentator at Wimbledon.

Christine Janes received an Honorary Civil Law Doctorate at Suffolk College in October 2005.

Ian Peacock, OBE

Ian retired as Chairman in May 2006, being succeeded by Roger Uttley having served as Chairman for eight years. His previous roles include Chief Executive of the Lawn Tennis Association, Chairman of the Golf Foundation, Chairman of the England Junior Golf Partnership. Ian is a Member of the Sport England Lottery Panel and a Director of the British Tennis Foundation.

Derek Ufton

Vice-Chairman of the Trust from 1993 to 2005, Derek is a former Charlton Athletic footballer and now a Director of the Club. He was also a leading cricketer, playing County cricket for Kent for many years.

Jimmy Hill, OBE

Jimmy Hill was elected a Vice-President at the 2007 Annual General Meeting.

A professional footballer with Brentford and Fulham, making 359 League appearances in a 12-year career, Jimmy became a Trustee in 1998. As Chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association, Jimmy was at the forefront of the ultimately successful attempt to have the maximum wage rule in football abolished.

 

VICE-CHAIRMAN and Trustee - Chris Baillieu, MBE

A former Cambridge Blue, Chris won a silver medal in Rowing in the 1976 Olympic Games and in 2005 was appointed the first Chairman of British Swimming. Chris also plays a leading role in many other sports areas, including the Sports Aid Foundation and recently was recruited to assist in the successful London Bid to stage the 2012 Olympic Games.

TRUSTEES

Nicolas Adamson, LVQ, OBE

Nicolas Adamson has been Private Secretary to His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent for a number of years.

Prior to taking up this appointment Nicolas had a lengthy career overseas in the Diplomatic Corps. Where he was held in the highest regard.

Mike Denness

Played First Class cricket for Scotland and Kent and Essex County Cricket Clubs and Test cricket for England . He captained Kent County CC for many years and England from 1973 to 1975, playing in 28 Tests – 19 as Captain. Mike is an Honorary Member of The Lord's Taverners and Deputy Chairman of The Lord's Taverners Cricket Committee.

Dame Mary Glen Haig, DBE

A world-renowned figure in international sport, Dame Mary is an Olympic Medallist in fencing, a Vice-President of the Central Council of Physical Recreation and represented Britain on the International Olympic Committee for many years, before being appointed an Honorary Member.

John James, OBE

Chief Executive of the Lawn Tennis Association for many years, until his retirement in 2003, John is a highly regarded sports administrator and was recently Vice-Chairman of the British Olympic Association.

John James has been elected an Honorary Member of the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Barry Newcombe

Barry Newcombe is a career sportswriter and has worked in Fleet Street since 1964. He was rugby and tennis correspondent for the Evening Standard for 19 years and held the same positions for the Sunday Express for 12 years.

Barry has been a freelance writer since 1997 and contributes to a variety of outlets including The Sunday Times and The Daily Telegraph on rugby and, also, is one of the lead writers on www.wimbledon.org during The Championships.

He is in his second term as Chairman of the Lawn Tennis Writers' Association, has been Treasurer of that body since 1983, has recently been elected to the Chairmanship of the Sports Journalists' Association and is President of the Rugby Union Writers' Club. Barry has reported on six Olympic Games and for Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 was Press Attaché to the British written media.

Alan Pascoe, MBE

A former Olympic athlete and British team Captain, Alan was a silver medallist in the 1972 Olympics and a European and Commonwealth gold medallist in 1974. He has over 25 years experience in sports promotion and events marketing and was Vice-Chairman of the successful London 2012 Olympic Bid.

Dame Mary Peters, DBE

An Olympic Gold Medallist in the Pentathlon event at the 1972 Munich Olympics, Dame Mary represented Northern Ireland at every Commonwealth Games from 1958 to 1974 and Great Britain Internationally from 1961 to 1974. Dame Mary is a tireless worker for numerous charities throughout the United Kingdom, but particularly in Northern Ireland, where she works hard to ensure that the underprivileged have an opportunity to participate in their chosen sport.

Geoffrey Thompson, OBE

Geoffrey Thompson, former Chairman of The Football Association and Vice-President of FIFA, became a Trustee in 1999 and has had a life-long interest in sport, particularly football and cricket.

Officers

Honorary Treasurer - Mark Day ACMA

Honorary Treasurer of the Trust since March 1989, Mark was the Director of Finance at The Football Association from 1986 until his retirement in July 1998. Mark has retained a keen interest in sport-related activities and is an Individual Member of the Central Council of Physical Recreation, a member of the Sports Aid Foundation Executive Committee and Chairman of its Finance Committee.

Honorary Secretary - Patricia Day, OBE

Following a long association with the Trust, Pat became the Honorary Secretary in March 1989. Formerly Deputy Chief Executive of The Football Association until her retirement in 1998, Pat is an Honorary Member of The Football Association and received the European Football Federation Order of Merit for her services to football administration in 1998. Pat retains a keen interest in sport, is a Council Member of the National Playing Fields Association and a member of the UK Sport Major Events Panel.

Liaison Officer – Angela Sasso

Angela is the Events Manager at the Central Council of Physical Recreation and has recently undertaken the role of the Trust's Liaison Officer.
